I used to teach sixth grade before I decided to stay at home when was Avery born. I loved teaching, but it was time to move onto other things. As a stay-at- home mom, I rediscovered my interest in photography and it didn't take long for interest to become passion.
Motherhood was where I found my focus in photography (literally, meh he). However, it was a process. Picking up what I used to call "a real camera" for the first time was kind of scary. I knew I wanted to take pictures I loved, but I didn't have the first clue, and all those letters and gears and terms I'd never heard before were intimidating. Like, what is aperture and how do I even begin to go about getting these blurry pictures off of my camera and into some other form I can use?
I think there are a lot of us out there that want to have great pictures to document everyday life, or capture moments that last forever, but we just need someone to show us how. We literally need someone to show us how to turn on the camera and decode what everything means.
In May, along with my friend Angela of Hazel and Haze Photography, I'll be combining my love of education and photography to teach those wanting to learn camera basics by bringing you KINDRED: an authentic guide to photography through a mother's lens. We would love for you to join us and bring your camera along. You don't need any aspirations besides getting to know your camera better than you do and getting help with whatever goals you have in mind.
